Alessia Gatta è una performer e coreografa Italiana.
Nata in Italia nel 1974, Gatta inizia a presentare le sue creazioni negli anni zero con la [Ritmi Sotterranei] contemporary dance company che tuttora dirige.
Pur essendo fortemente legata al suo territorio di origine, la Ciociaria, terra intrisa di tradizioni situata nell’Italia centrale, Gatta sente l’esigenza di raccontare con la danza il presente del genere umano a 360° e tutti i luoghi da esso abitati. Una visione fatta di spazio e corpo vissuta da storie e personaggi che riflettono la società contemporanea. Questa sua esigenza, però, inizia negli anni giovanili. Durante l’adolescenza, infatti, viaggia in tutta Europa e negli States al fianco del padre impegnato nella ricerca per il dipartimento italiano “Difesa e Spazio – Avio”, si dedica così agli studi della danza classica, contemporanea e hip hop con i maggiori interpreti del panorama internazionale nei centri di New York, Londra, Roma, Parigi, Vienna e Brussels. Si lascia influenzare e travolgere da questo mix di culture, danze e architetture e questo periodo segna fortemente l’inizio della sua visione artistica.
Prima che la sua attenzione si focalizzasse totalmente verso la carriera di regista e coreografa, è stata danzatrice nella DaCruDanceCompany e parallelamente ha portato avanti i suoi studi universitari di architettura.
La passione per l’architettura, infatti, la spinge a pensare, progettare e creare opere teatrali fatte di contenuti che non possono prescindere dal loro contenitore.

Alessia Gatta is an Italian performer and choreographer.
She was born in Italy on 1974 and she started presenting her creations in the 2000s with [Ritmi Sotterranei], the contemporary dance company she still directs.
Despite holding strong links with her territory of origin, Ciociaria, a land located in central Italy, steeped in traditions, Gatta feels the need to narrate through dance all the aspects of human being’s present time and the places it inhabits. A vision made of space and body, lived by stories and characters that reflect contemporary society. A need clearly expressed since her youth.
During her adolescence, in fact, she travelled all over Europe and the States alongside her father, who was engaged in the research for the Italian department “Defence and Space – Avio”. She, thus, dedicated herself to the studies of ballet, contemporary dance and hip hop with the most renowned performers of the international scene in the centres of New York, London, Rome, Paris, Vienna and Brussels and let herself be influenced and overwhelmed by this combination of cultures, dances and architectures: this period strongly marked the beginning of her artistic vision.
Before her attention was totally focused on her career as a director and choreographer, she was a dancer in the DaCruDanceCompany and at the same time continued her university architecture studies. The passion for architecture, in fact, pushed her to think, design and create theatrical works made of contents that cannot be separated from their container.
La qualità della sua composizione coreografica viene premiata durante la “Settimana Internazionale della danza Città di Spoleto” nel 2005, al premio “Rieti Danza” nel 2006, da Vittoria Ottolenghi al “RHHP” di Roma nel 2007 e durante il festival “Les Italiennes” di Nantes in Francia sempre nel 2007.
Nel 2008 Gatta ottiene il riconoscimento alla coreografia dal prof.re Alberto Testa nell’ambito della “XXXVII edizione del Premio Positano Léonide Massine per l’arte della danza”. Il 2008 è anche l’anno che segna l’inizio del suo portfolio personale di produzioni teatrali per la compagnia [Ritmi Sotterranei] con la quale e’ ospite in teatri e festival internazionali affascinando non solo il pubblico italiano ma anche le platee di Francia, Belgio, Danimarca, Korea del sud e Cina.
Gatta si distingue per il suo linguaggio contaminato ed eclettico e per il suo stile originale e di ricercara. W.O.M. ( where opposites meet ) è l’acronimo con cui Gatta identifica il suo linguaggio sia di formazione che coreografico. Un luogo dove gli opposti si incontrano e dove la contaminazione tra gli stili è il punto di partenza e di arrivo.
Gli spettacoli della compagnia sono frutto di un’intensa ricerca e sperimentazione tra Gatta e i suoi danzatori, differenti tra di loro in tecnica, fisicità, interpretazione e provenienza. Danzatori che si lasciano coinvolgere emotivamente e sono disposti a mettere a disposizione non solo la loro abilità tecnica, ma soprattutto la loro personalità.
Confrontarsi con l’immaginario di Alessia Gatta significa avvertire una relazione completamente nuova tra la danza contemporanea, l’hip hop, la break dance e la vita quotidiana, le crisi economiche, l’evoluzione della società, la ricerca del bello, l’infinito, l’inquinamento del nostro pianeta e lo spazio cosmico.
“Sospeso tra le correnti” (2008), “Cemento“ 2011), “A Mazon” (2013), “Weltflucht” (2014), “Convivio” (2015), “L’uomo dal cervello d’oro” (2017) ,“8×8=64” (2018), Keeping Warm ( 2021) e Crolli ( 2021) sono alcuni degli spettacoli frutto di un’intensa ricerca e sperimentazione tra Gatta e i suoi danzatori.
Oltre al suo lavoro con la compagnia, Gatta ha sviluppato creazioni anche per altri centri e compagnie come “Compagnia Opus Ballet” di Firenze, “Dance Arts Faculty” di Roma, “Arte Danza” di Padova, e “Compagnia Vis Ballet” di Ancona.
Gatta è invitata come docente ospite presso i maggiori centri di formazione professionale e stage internazionali, inoltre, dal 2012 al 2016, è stata docente dell’Accademia di Belle Arti di Frosinone per il corso “performance multimediale dell’evento moda”, nel 2016 presso la Blåkilde Efterskole in Danimarca e nel 2018 e 2019 presso la Normal University di Shanghai. Nell’anno 2020 è stata selezionata dall’Accademia Nazionale di Danza di Roma per tenere una residenza artistica all’interno del progetto Resid’and per l’anno 2023.
Parallelamente alle sue creazioni per la [Ritmi Sotterranei] dance company, Alessia Gatta realizza coreografie e cura la direzione artistica per grandi aziende come BMW Group, Elite Model Look, Bags Entertainmen, Idea Meeting, Cruising Arts, Frosinone Calcio,Devora Film, Revock Film, Artsite Fest, OTI- Officine del teatro italiano e Viola Produzioni.
E’ stata direttrice artistica del FRUSNA FESTIVAL di Frosinone, della rassegna RACCORDI di Umbertide e attualmente, oltre alla sua attività costante con la compagnia, è direttrice artistica del centro per lo studio e la ricerca della danza contemporanea [MATRICE] N, del centro Brancaccio Danza di Roma e coordinatrice della stagione danza del teatro Spazio Diamante di Roma. Dal 2021 è direttrice artistica di FUTURO FESTIVAL – festival di danza e cultura contemporanea- organizzato dall’associazione [Matrice N] che si svolge presso Teatro Brancaccio di Roma. FUTURO FESTIVAL è sostenuto dal MIC – Ministero della Cultura. Alessia Gatta è inoltre direttrice artistica e ideatrice di WOM DIALOGUES, progetto di formazione e produzione per il ricambio generazionale organizzato dall’associazione BrancaccioDanza e sostenuto dal MIC- Ministero della Cultura. Dal 2021 è inoltre direttrice artistica, insieme all’artista Viola Pantano, della sezione DANCING CAMERA del ARTSITEFEST di Torino diretto dal curatore Domenico Maria Papa.
The high quality of her choreographic composition was rewarded in 2005 during the “International Dance Week Città di Spoleto”, in 2006 at the “Rieti Danza”, where she was awarded by Vittoria Ottolenghi, in 2007 at the “RHHP” in Rome and in the same 2007 during the “Les Italiennes” festival of Nantes in France.
In 2008, Gatta was awarded by prof. Alberto Testa for the choreography in the “XXXVII edition of the Positano Léonide Massine Award for the art of dance”. 2008 is also the year that marked the beginning of her personal portfolio of theatrical productions for the [Ritmi Sotterranei], which she has been invited as a guest by many international theatres and festivals, fascinating not only the Italian audience but also the audiences of France, Belgium, Denmark, South Korea and China.
Gatta is distinguished by its contaminated and eclectic language and its original and sophisticated style. W.O.M. ( where opposites meet ) is the acronym with which Gatta identifies his language of both training and choreography. A place where opposites meet and where the contamination between styles is the point of departure and arrival.
Her pieces are the result of the intense research and experimentation made by Gatta together with her dancers, who are different one from another in technique, physicality, interpretation and origin. Dancers who let themselves be emotionally involved and available to share not only their technical ability, but above all their personality.
Facing the imagery of Alessia Gatta means experiencing a completely new relationship between contemporary dance, hip hop, break dance and everyday life, economic crises, the evolution of society, the search for beauty, the infinite, the pollution of our planet and the cosmic space.

In addition to the works created with the Dance Company, Gatta has also developed creations for different Dance Centres and Companies such as “Compagnia Opus Ballet” (Florence), “Dance Arts Faculty” (Rome), “Arte Danza” (Padua), and “Compagnia Vis Ballet” (Ancona). Gatta is invited as a guest teacher by the major centres of professional training and international workshops. Moreover, from 2012 to 2016, she was a professor of the Fine Arts Academy of Frosinone for the course “Multimedia Performance of the Fashion Event” in 2016 at Blåkilde Efterskole in Denmark and in 2018 and 2019 at the Normal University of Shanghai. In 2020 she was selected by the Accademia Nazionale di Danza in Rome to hold an artistic residency within the Resid’and project for the year 2023.
Besides her creations for [Ritmi Sotterranei] contemporary dance company, Alessia Gatta creates choreographies and takes care of the artistic direction of several important Companies like BMW Group, Elite Model Look, Bags Entertainmen, Idea Meeting, Cruising Arts, Frosinone Calcio,Devora Film, Revock Film, Artsite Fest, OTI- Officine del teatro italiano and Viola Produzioni.
She was artistic director of the FRUSNA FESTIVAL in Frosinone, of the RACCORDI festival in Umbertide and currently, in addition to her constant activity with the company, she is artistic director of the [MATRICE] N centre for the study and research of contemporary dance, of the Brancaccio Danza centre in Rome and coordinator of the dance season of the Spazio Diamante theatre in Rome. Since 2021 she is the artistic director of FUTURO FESTIVAL – festival of contemporary dance and culture – organized by the association [Matrice N] that takes place at Teatro Brancaccio in Rome. FUTURO FESTIVAL is supported by the MIC – Ministry of Culture. Alessia Gatta is also the artistic director and creator of WOM DIALOGUES, a training and production project for the generational turnover organised by the BrancaccioDanza association and supported by the MIC – Ministry of Culture. Since 2021 she has also been the artistic director, together with the artist Viola Pantano, of the DANCING CAMERA section of the ARTSITEFEST in Turin directed by the curator Domenico Maria Papa.
